Joining the Community Tool Library
The community tool library lends basic gardening and repair equipment to adults who live in the district. Membership is available from the age of eighteen. You do not have to own your home: people renting a room or staying in temporary accommodation can join if they can show that they currently live locally.
At registration, bring photo identification and proof of your local address. We accept a recent utility bill, a tenancy agreement or a letter from a recognised housing service. If none of these is available, please speak to the membership team before visiting. A document showing only your place of work will not confirm where you live.
New members must attend a short safety session before borrowing equipment. The session is free and runs twice a week. It covers the loan rules as well as safe handling, so previous experience with tools does not remove the attendance requirement.
After completing the session, members can reserve an available tool online. Reservations are held until noon on the next opening day; after that, the tool becomes available to other members. There is no need to buy equipment from us before joining. If an item breaks during a loan, contact the library rather than attempting to repair it yourself.
