Repeat Sentence sample questions: FAQ

What is PTE Repeat Sentence?+

You hear a sentence once and repeat it aloud, word for word, as soon as it ends. PTE Core has the same task.

How long is the sentence, and how long do I speak?+

The recording is 3–9 seconds: one sentence. You have 15 seconds to answer; the microphone opens after a short tone when the audio ends. You can record once, and recording stops if you stay silent for three seconds.

How many Repeat Sentence questions are in the PTE test?+

Pearson's PTE Academic Score Guide (July 2025) lists 10–12 Repeat Sentence items in Part 1, more than any other speaking item.

How is Repeat Sentence scored?+

Content 0–3: 3 = every word in the right order; 2 = at least half the words in order; 1 = less than half; 0 = almost nothing. Pronunciation (0–5) and Oral Fluency (0–5) are scored too.

What if I forget part of the sentence?+

Say what you remember fluently. Content gives 2 out of 3 for at least half the words in order, and Fluency and Pronunciation are still scored.
