What C1 Advanced score do you need for an Australian visa?

Home Affairs accepts C1 Advanced taken at a secure test centre and does not accept tests delivered completely online (Home Affairs). For older results, between 12 February 2024 and 6 August 2025 it accepted only the paper-based C1 Advanced; tests before 12 February 2024 can count on paper or computer within the validity periods (Home Affairs).

Results from tests taken on or before 6 August 2025 can be used until 6 August 2028 inclusive, depending on the visa (Home Affairs). For vocational English, the new table on the vocational page does not list C1 Advanced, so check your visa's page before relying on a new result at that level.

The competent and proficient pages say the score must be achieved in the 3 years before your visa application, depending on the visa subclass (Home Affairs). C1 Advanced digital results take 5 to 10 working days (Cambridge), so allow for that before an invitation deadline.

Cambridge certificates do not expire, but the visa time limit still applies; see do Cambridge certificates expire. All accepted tests are compared in English tests accepted for Australian visas. Rules and fees change. Check the test owner's own page for your country before you book or pay. This guide is general information, not official advice from the test owner.
