Can you take your phone into the IELTS test room?

No. Phones, smartwatches and every other electronic device must be switched off and left with your belongings outside the room. IDP says anyone who keeps a phone or device with them will be disqualified, and IDP's terms add no result, no refund and possible electronic scanning for devices. Watches of any kind stay outside too; the room has a wall clock.

The rule

IDP's test-day FAQ says personal belongings go in a secure area or locker; mobile phones, pagers and smartwatches must be switched off and left there, and if you keep a phone or electronic device with you, you will be disqualified (IDP). IDP's terms add that all electronic devices and all watches must be left switched off in the belongings area, you may be electronically scanned for devices at any time on test day, and a breach means no result and no refund or transfer.

Where your things go

ielts.org says you will be asked to leave all personal belongings in a safe place outside the test room (ielts.org). IDP Australia says a secure room is usually available but advises against bringing valuables (IDP Australia). IDP's terms say the centre takes reasonable care of the belongings area but cannot be held responsible for losses.
