Other tests and school qualifications
Green River accepts TOEFL MyBest and TOEFL ITP but not TOEFL Essentials. Other accepted measures include Oxford ELLT 5 with no band below 3, Cambridge English at B2, C1 or C2, SAT English Language Arts 410 with Math 430, ACT English Language Arts 14, EIKEN Pre-1 and GTEC 1095. Its own placement test and completing Intensive English Level 5 also count.
A high school diploma from an accredited school using the British or American curriculum with a pass in English counts, and the page names Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and the UK among the countries. IGCSE, GCSE or GCE English as a First Language at C or 4, or English as a Second Language at B or 5, also counts, as does WASSCE English at C6 or better and KCSE English at C+ or above.

Intensive English and placement on arrival
All Intensive English students take a diagnostic test in the first week to fix their final level. Students at Level 0 are advised to take an outside language course first; if they are still at Level 0 afterwards they must take in-class tutoring at an extra $500 a term. Students finishing Intensive English must start academic study within two quarters.
Requirements and placement levels change between terms. The score that binds you is the one on Green River College's international admissions page and in your admission letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Green River College publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
