What IELTS score do you need for the Guildhall School of Music & Drama?

For Group A, TOEFL iBT taken on or before 20 January 2026 needs 72 (R18, L17, S20, W17); from 21 January 2026 it needs 4 with 4 in each skill. LanguageCert Academic needs 60 with 60 in each, Cambridge 160 with 160 in each, Oxford ELLT 5 with 5 in each, and Trinity ISE II, III or IV a pass in all four parts.

For Group B the page lists TOEFL 92 on the old scale or 4.5 with 4 in each skill on the new one, LanguageCert 70 with 65 in each, Cambridge 176 and Oxford ELLT 7 with 6 in each. Duolingo is not mentioned.

Tests must be dated no more than two years before the course starts, and school qualifications within three years. Nationals of majority English-speaking countries, and holders of a degree from one (Canada excluded), are exempt. IB English A at HL 4 or SL 5, HKDSE 4 and India CBSE or ISC at 85% are among the school routes. Evidence is usually due by late April, or mid-June for offers made from April.

For a Student visa, UK Visas and Immigration asks for English at CEFR B2 for degree-level study and B1 below degree level, per gov.uk. At degree level, gov.uk adds, your university can assess your English itself, but the level must still be equivalent to B2.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Guildhall programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
