Who is exempt
You do not need a test with a Dutch havo, vwo or mbo 4 diploma; an IB diploma, IB Career-related Programme certificate, US High School diploma, GCE A(S) levels or European Baccalaureate (English Language 1 or 2); previous secondary or university education taught in English in Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA; or a diploma on Nuffic's list with English as an exam subject.
Duolingo is not on the list, and the page does not state how old a test may be.

Tests must be taken at an official test centre. Only where regular testing is unavailable or unsafe does BUas accept the TOEFL Home Edition, and you should contact its Student Office before booking.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your BUas programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Breda University of Applied Sciences publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
