What each paper asks

Reading and Use of English has 3,000 to 3,500 words of text. Parts 1 to 4 are multiple-choice cloze, open cloze, word formation and key word transformations (three to six words using a given key word); Parts 5 to 8 are multiple choice, cross-text multiple matching, gapped text and multiple matching (Cambridge).

Writing Part 1 is a compulsory essay based on points in a text, explaining which of two points is more important. Part 2 is one of three tasks: a letter or email, proposal, report or review. Both are 220 to 260 words (Cambridge).

Listening includes a monologue of about 3 minutes with sentence completion and a conversation of about 4 minutes with four-option multiple choice (Cambridge).

It runs: interview (2 minutes), long turn, collaborative task (a 2-minute discussion then a 1-minute decision, 3 minutes in all) and a 5-minute discussion (Cambridge). Rules and fees change.
