Cambridge TOEFL minimums by course
Cambridge's postgraduate English language page lists TOEFL iBT (including Home Edition) as an accepted test and tells you to check your course page for the scores. The figures below come from the LLM and MCL requirement pages, which give only the 0 to 120 scale. New TOEFL iBT score reports also carry a 1 to 6 score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see the new TOEFL score scale explained.
| Level or programme | TOEFL iBT minimum | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Master of Law (LLM) | 110 total, with 25 in listening, writing, reading and speaking | Evidence needed when you apply; MyBest not accepted |
| Master of Corporate Law (MCL) | 110 total, with 25 in listening, writing, reading and speaking | Results due with the application or by 1 April 2027 at the latest |
| Other postgraduate courses | Set on each course page | TOEFL iBT including Home Edition accepted |
| Undergraduate | No fixed TOEFL figure published | The College making the offer decides any English condition |
Cambridge TOEFL test rules
Your test result must be dated no more than two years before the start of your course, and Cambridge does not combine scores from different test certificates. It verifies results through online services and says it cannot accept test reports sent directly from IELTS or TOEFL. For the LLM and MCL, all required scores must come from the same sitting, TOEFL MyBest scores are not accepted, and test scores must be less than two years old by the October 2027 start.
For comparison, the LLM requirement page asks for IELTS Academic 7.5 overall with 7.0 in each element.
For undergraduates, the entry requirements page says offers may include an English language condition and that the condition may be based on a high school qualification or an approved English test.

If your TOEFL score is below the Cambridge level
The LLM and MCL pages say referrals to the University of Cambridge Language Centre for assessment are not available for those courses and that the language requirement cannot be waived, so you would need a new test that meets 110 with 25 in each section. For other courses, the postgraduate page advises booking a test soon after an offer so there is time for a resit.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Cambridge programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
