Can you cancel your IELTS test after you have already rescheduled it?

You can cancel, but you will usually get nothing back. IDP Australia says there is typically no refund if your test was already transferred, and ielts.org says you can only transfer the same booking once. So a second change of plan normally means losing the fee. Before you move a date, pick one you are confident you can keep, within three months of the original.

The rules that apply

ielts.org's global policy: you may change your test date at any time before the test, but a request close to the test may be treated as a cancellation. The new date must fall within three months of the original, or the transfer is treated as a cancellation, and you can only transfer the same booking once (ielts.org).

If something serious happens after the transfer

Special consideration still exists. If illness, bereavement or another exceptional event stops you sitting the transferred date, apply to the centre with evidence before the test or within two calendar days after it (ielts.org). See IELTS special consideration.

How to avoid losing the fee

Choose the new date only once you know your preparation, travel and documents will be ready. Check the date is within three months of the original, because a later date counts as a cancellation under the global and UKVI rules.

If you are unsure, compare the cost of cancelling now with the risk of transferring. At IDP Australia a cancellation at least 14 days ahead is refunded in full (IDP Australia), which can be better than transferring and then losing everything. Detailed rules are set locally and can differ by country and test centre, so check your booking confirmation or ask your centre if anything here does not match what you were told.
