What TOEFL score do you need for CityU in Canada?

CityU says institutional versions of the listed tests are not acceptable, and that results must come directly from the examining body; results uploaded by applicants are not accepted. Scores from tests taken outside CityU must be authenticated by the test publisher. The page gives no section minimums, institution code or MyBest policy.

This page gives TOEFL iBT minimums on the 0 to 120 scale only. TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score; see how the new TOEFL score scale works.

For comparison, the same page sets Academic IELTS at 6.5 with no band below 6.0 for graduate programmes and 6.0 for undergraduate programmes.

Students who submit official transcripts from a school or programme taught mainly in English need no further proof of English. CityU also measures proficiency through its own iTEP-based placement test, whose scores are valid for two years.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your CityU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
