Curry's English minimums

Full admission before your I-20
The page says you must be fully admitted to a full-time, degree-seeking or approved English language or pathway programme before Curry can issue an immigration document, and that admission must be final, not conditional, for the programme on your Form I-20. Curry verifies admission, English proficiency where required and your finances before a Designated School Official issues the I-20.
In practice this means a conditional offer waiting on a test score will not unlock your visa paperwork until the score arrives.

Checking and the visa rule change
The page also notes the Department of Homeland Security rule, scheduled to take effect on 15 September 2026, that ends admission under Duration of Status and gives F-1 students a fixed end date on their I-94. Read it with your international student office, because it affects extensions and transfers.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Curry programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Curry College publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
