Country rule and English module
Indian or Nepali citizens need IELTS 6.0 with no band below 5.5, or equivalent, for diploma programs. Evidence must be no more than two years old at commencement. TOEFL iBT tests taken between 26 July 2023 and 4 May 2024 are not accepted.
International diploma students without an exemption must take LDM100, a free English Language Module. Exemptions include IELTS 6.0 or above, an Australian Foundation Program, or citizenship of the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand or Ireland.

Deakin English and how to check
If you are below the score, you can study intensive English at the Deakin University English Language Institute (DUELI) at Burwood. EAP 2 meets the diploma and Foundation level and EAP 3 the Masters Qualifying Program. The page lists 2026 fees of A$510 a week plus a A$250 enrolment fee.
Requirements vary by course and can change between intakes. The score that binds you is the one on your Deakin College course page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test. Your student visa is assessed separately, under the Department of Home Affairs Student visa (subclass 500) rules.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Deakin College publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
