What gov.uk asks for
The eligibility page lists four requirements, none of them an English test. You need a licensed sponsor, and the work must relate to the sponsor organisation's work (gov.uk).
| Item | Gov.uk figure |
|---|---|
| Application fee | £340 per person |
| Healthcare surcharge | Usually £1,035 per year |
| Savings | Usually at least £1,270 |
| Maximum stay | 12 months, or certificate of sponsorship time plus up to 28 days, whichever is shorter |
| Decision time | 3 weeks outside the UK, 8 weeks inside |
Short jobs and sportspeople
If you will work in the UK for 3 months or less, gov.uk says you may be able to use the Creative Worker visa concession instead of the visa. Sportspeople use the separate International Sportsperson visa, which this guide does not cover.
Rules change, sometimes at short notice. Confirm the current requirement on the gov.uk Creative Worker guide before you book a test or apply. This guide restates the official page; it is not legal or immigration advice.

What you can do on the visa
Gov.uk says you can work for your sponsor in the job on your certificate of sponsorship, study (some courses need an ATAS certificate), and bring your partner and children as dependants if they are eligible.
You cannot get public funds or start your own business.
