Is IELTS for UKVI harder than IELTS Academic?

No. IELTS for UKVI has the same questions, format, timing and marking as IELTS Academic or General Training. It is sat at a Home Office-approved centre with extra security, and the Test Report Form carries UKVI details.

What IELTS UKVI score do I need?

It depends on the visa's CEFR level. On UKVI's approved list, IELTS for UKVI needs 4.0 in each skill for B1, 5.5 for B2, 7.0 for C1 and 8.5 for C2. The Skilled Worker visa asks for B2; degree-level student visas usually let the university assess English.

Can I practise for IELTS UKVI with a normal IELTS mock?

Yes. Because the content is the same, a full IELTS Academic or General Training mock is the right practice. Pick the version your visa or course names.

Is IELTS Life Skills the same as IELTS for UKVI?

No. IELTS Life Skills is a separate speaking and listening test at A1, A2 or B1 for family, settlement and citizenship routes. This page covers the full four-skill IELTS for UKVI.
