How long do you have to take the Duolingo English Test after paying?

21 days from the original purchase date. Duolingo says unused test credits expire after 21 days and the date cannot be extended. One credit covers three attempts to complete and upload the test and one certified result, so leave room within the 21 days for a second or third attempt if something goes wrong.

The 21-day rule

Duolingo's help centre gives you 21 days to take a test from your original purchase date. Unused credits expire after that, and the expiry date cannot be extended. The same limit appears in its general test rules.

What one credit includes

A single test gives one credit and a bundle gives two. Each credit allows one certified result and three attempts to complete and upload the test; every start counts as an attempt (help centre). A credit can also end early: two rule violations, or one case of possible misconduct, make it expire (help centre). Bundle credits cannot be shared between accounts (help centre).

Planning around the deadline

Before buying, check you have a Windows or macOS laptop or desktop, valid ID and an internet connection of at least 2 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload, ideally wired (rules, help centre). The free practice test needs only an account, so you can try it before the 21 days start.

Bundle purchases are not refundable (help centre). For other problems, contact support within 24 hours of the issue; you are not eligible for a refund if you broke the test rules (help centre).
