What you need
Form AN guidance section 9 says EUSS settled status holders must take the Life in the UK test and show knowledge of language before applying. Gov.uk's citizenship page lists proving English, Welsh or Scottish Gaelic and passing the Life in the UK test.
| Requirement | Ways to meet it |
|---|---|
| English language | Approved SELT at B1 or higher in speaking and listening; a degree taught in English; Irish, Maltese or other majority English-speaking nationality |
| Life in the UK | Pass the Life in the UK test (£50, 75% pass mark) |
| Exemptions | Aged 65 or over, or a long-term physical or mental condition |
Nationals who skip the test
Maltese and Irish nationals meet the English part by nationality for citizenship; Ireland counts for citizenship only. Other EU nationals need a SELT, degree or exemption.
Gov.uk says pre-settled status holders may also be able to apply for citizenship in certain cases (gov.uk), but the language and Life in the UK rules still apply.
Need CLB 4 for Canadian citizenship?
IRCC accepts IELTS General Training and PTE Core, not IELTS Academic or PTE Academic. Practise the test you will actually sit, free.

Timing and fee
Gov.uk's citizenship page says you can apply if you have lived in the UK for 5 years and have had settled status (or ILR) for 12 months, unless you are married to a British citizen. It costs £1,839 (£1,709 to apply plus a £130 ceremony fee), with a decision usually within 6 months.
A SELT must be awarded in the 2 years before you apply, so time your test to fall inside that window.
