How Florida State handles TOEFL scores

Scores count as official only when the testing agency sends them directly to the admissions office, and they are no longer valid after two years. Neither page gives section minimums.

Graduate departments usually start reviewing with self-reported scores, entered on your Online Status Page after you apply, while the official scores arrive.

For comparison, both the undergraduate page and the graduate page set IELTS Academic at 6.5.

If your TOEFL score is below Florida State's level

Graduate applicants can meet the requirement by completing Level 8 (Advanced) at FSU's Center for Intensive English Studies. The university-level requirement is waived for applicants with a bachelor's degree or higher from the US or an English-speaking country, though your department may still ask for proof of English.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Florida State programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
