Other tests and German

Neither page names PTE Academic, Duolingo or a medium of instruction letter as an alternative.

Global Software Development asks German at A1 (for example Goethe, telc, ÖSD or ECL A1) from applicants whose school qualification was not obtained at a German-speaking institution. Data Science asks A2, with DSH1 or TestDaF TDN 3 also accepted.

Both programmes need a computing degree of at least 180 or 210 credits, a grade of 2.5 or better, and an aptitude test run by the department.

Deadlines and how to check

Non-EU applicants with a foreign first degree apply from 1 to 31 May for the winter semester. Global Software Development also lists 1 November to 1 December for the summer semester.

Your German student visa is handled by the German embassy or consulate where you apply, not by Fulda University of Applied Sciences. This guide covers Fulda University of Applied Sciences's admission rule only. Our IELTS for Germany guide covers the visa side and test fees.

English requirements in Germany are set per programme and can change between intakes. The score that binds you is the one on your Fulda programme page and in your admission letter, so check it there before you book a test.

Minimum vs competitive score

Where Fulda University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule Fulda) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.

Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
