Other routes and exempt countries
Undergraduates can also use the IB Diploma with Higher Level English at 5 or better, two college-level English composition courses at a US college with C or better, SAT evidence-based reading and writing 550, four full years of secondary school in the US, or a signed letter from the school confirming English is the primary language of instruction.
Citizens of listed countries are exempt at admission, including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Jamaica, Canada (except Quebec) and Australia. India and Pakistan are not on the list. Graduate applicants with a bachelor's degree from an accredited US institution are also exempt.

How to check your score
Graduate scores must be official, sent directly to Furman and no more than two years old. Furman is unable to give Duolingo fee waivers.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admission cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Furman programme page and in your admission letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Furman University publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
