Check you are eligible
ielts.org says you can take One Skill Retake if you completed a full test at a centre that offers it, the full test was IELTS on computer, and you sit the retake within 60 days of the full test (ielts.org). IDP Australia says it is also available after IELTS Writing on Paper, and a Writing retake is then done on paper too (IDP Australia).
You get one retake per full test, of one skill only. To improve more than one skill, you need a new full test.
The booking steps (IDP)
IDP Australia lists these steps (IDP Australia); IDP India uses the same Retake button in its candidate login (IDP India).

Things to check before you pay
ID: IDP Australia says to use the same valid passport you used for the original test; bringing a different passport or ID may stop you sitting the retake, and the ID must still be valid on the retake day (IDP Australia). If your passport has changed, contact IDP first and see new passport after booking IELTS.
Fee: in Australia it is AUD 310 for any skill, with no separate registration fee, payment processing fee or last-minute booking fee (IDP Australia). India's fee is INR 12,650 (IDP India). Other countries are in our One Skill Retake fee table.
Re-mark first: if you also want a re-mark, apply before you sit the retake. IDP Australia says you cannot request one afterwards (IDP Australia). Detailed rules are set locally and can differ by country and test centre, so check your booking confirmation or ask your centre if anything here does not match what you were told.
