Other pathways

No test is needed if you graduated from a Board-accredited programme, or if English is your first language and your primary qualification is from an institution in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK or the USA where English was the sole language of instruction and assessment.

The third pathway is at least two years in the last five working continuously as a registered practitioner in an accredited medical imaging or radiation therapy facility in one of those countries, in a comparable role. You give two senior referees who speak English as their first language, and a Board delegate contacts them.

Test rules

The Board does not accept the IELTS online test or OET@Home. Results must be achieved in one sitting within two years before your application, and they are verified.

Older results can count only if you have been continuously employed as a registered medical imaging or radiation therapy practitioner in a recognised English-speaking country and you apply within 12 months of finishing that employment.

Regulators change these rules, sometimes at short notice. Confirm the current scores on the MRTB policy page before you book a test.
