IVC accepted tests
From IVC's English proficiency requirements page. Official scores cannot be more than two years old.

Waivers
You do not need a test if English is your native language or English was the language of instruction throughout high school, with official school documents to show it. Two years at a US high school with a US diploma, or Freshman Composition (WR 1) at a US university with a C or better, also waives the test.
Completing the set level at a partner ESL school also waives testing. Examples include ELS Language Centers Level 109, Kaplan International English (Advanced), Language Systems International Level 6 and UC Riverside's International Education Program Level 600.

ESL guided placement for all new students
All new students whose first language is not English complete IVC's ESL guided self-placement before registering. A test score or ESL school completion does not waive this step. IVC is part of the South Orange County Community College District with Saddleback College.
Requirements and placement levels change between terms. The score that binds you is the one on Irvine Valley College's international admissions page and in your admission letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Irvine Valley College publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
