Why 7.5 matters for demanding courses

ielts.org's guidance for institutions puts 7.5 to 9.0 in one row: acceptable for linguistically demanding and less demanding academic courses, and for both kinds of training course. At 7.0 demanding academic courses are only 'probably acceptable'.

This is why some programmes with heavy reading and writing loads ask for 7.5. Every university, employer and visa authority sets its own minimum, often with a minimum in each skill as well as overall. Check the exact requirement before you book.
