Same scale, different Reading conversion
ielts.org states that the Academic and General Training Reading tests 'are graded on the same scale'. Academic texts may use harder vocabulary or a more complex style, so 'it is usual that a greater number of questions must be answered correctly on a General Training Reading test to secure a given band score' (ielts.org).
ielts.org's average raw marks show the gap. The precise number varies slightly between test versions.

Listening and the overall band
ielts.org publishes one Listening conversion for both modules: about 16 correct for band 5, 23 for band 6, 30 for band 7 and 35 for band 8 (ielts.org). The overall band is worked out the same way in both: the average of four skills, rounded to the nearest half band.

Which module is accepted where
Because the band meanings match, the real question is acceptance. IRCC requires General Training for Express Entry (IRCC). Home Affairs lists both IELTS Academic and General Training with the same minimums for Vocational and Competent English (Home Affairs). Universities usually ask for Academic, so check the admissions page before booking.

Is General Training 7 equal to Academic 7?+
They are on the same 9-band scale. ielts.org notes General Training Reading needs more correct answers for the same band.
Is General Training easier to score in?+
