Jacksonville University English requirements by level
From JU's undergraduate English proficiency page and its graduate international admissions page. The graduate page says its standards are not universal across all Graduate and Professional Studies programmes, and that programmes such as those in the School of Orthodontics have higher requirements.
| Programme | IELTS Academic | Other tests |
|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate | 6.5 | TOEFL iBT 79, PTE 56, Duolingo 105, SAT Reading and Writing 500, ACT Reading and Writing 21 |
| Graduate (most programmes) | 6.5 | TOEFL iBT 79, PTE 59, Duolingo 110 |
| School of Orthodontics and some others | Higher, set by programme | Set by programme |
Waivers
Undergraduates may have the requirement waived, subject to review by the Office of Admissions, after completing at least 24 semester credits at an accredited US college or university, English Composition (or an equivalent) with a C or higher at an accredited US institution, or an English as a Second Language programme at an accredited US college or university.
Graduate applicants may be waived with an associate's, bachelor's, master's or PhD equivalent from a recognised or regionally accredited US institution, or from a country where English is the official and spoken language, or after one academic year in a qualified degree programme at such an institution. Waivers are reviewed by the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies.

Before you apply
Neither page publishes band minimums, a pre-sessional or conditional admission route, or a validity period for English test scores. The five-year validity mentioned on the graduate page refers to foreign credential evaluations, not English tests.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admission cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Jacksonville University programme page and in your admission letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Jacksonville University publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
