What TOEFL score do you need for LIU?

The page lists TOEFL Essentials alongside the iBT and notes that major-specific postgraduate and PhD programmes may set their own requirements on the LIU Brooklyn or LIU Post websites. It does not mention MyBest, the Home Edition, validity or an institution code.

TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. Where a page above gives only a 0 to 120 figure, that is the figure this guide reports.

For comparison, the same page sets IELTS at 6 for bachelor's and 6.5 for postgraduate applicants.

Applicants may be eligible for a testing waiver based on citizenship of a listed English-speaking country or prior English-medium education, and bachelor's applicants can use SAT or ACT scores instead. The page does not describe conditional admission.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your LIU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
