How Merrimack handles TOEFL scores

The undergraduate page needs scores sent directly by the testing authority from a test completed within the past two years. Its only Home Edition note covers applicants for the 2022-23 academic year. Graduate applicants who have earned an academic degree in the US do not need to submit English scores.

For comparison, both pages set IELTS at 6.5 with no band below 6.

TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. Where a page above gives only a 0 to 120 figure, that is the figure this guide reports.

If your TOEFL score is below Merrimack's level

Undergraduates who meet every requirement except English proficiency can use Merrimack's conditional admission options. Undergraduates can also meet the requirement with SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 510, an ACT composite of 23, a C in IGCSE O-level English or a C in a college course equivalent to Merrimack's introductory writing course.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Merrimack programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
