What ID do you need for OET?

A valid passport or a valid national ID issued by the government of the country where you sit OET, showing your full name, photo and date of birth on one document. Driving licences do not count. You must show the same ID you booked with; for OET on Computer and OET@Home a national ID must be in English lettering or come with a certified translation.

Refugees, BRP holders and missing details

In the UK, refugee or asylum candidates can use a valid government ID with name, photo and date of birth, such as a Biometric Residence Permit, an Application Registration Card or a Home Office travel document. OET does not accept a driving licence as primary ID in the UK. An expired BRP can be used with a second valid ID (a UK driving licence can serve as that second ID) or with an OET authorisation letter (OET regulations).

If your ID has no photo or date of birth, or is pending, submit an authorisation request within 48 hours of booking, and bring the letter with your ID on the day (OET regulations).

On test day

Bring the original ID you booked with. Wrong or alternative ID is not accepted; you may sometimes be allowed to sit with checks afterwards, but if OET decides you could not sit, you may get no transfer or refund. If OET contacts you for documents, you have five calendar days to provide them, or results can be withheld or cancelled (OET regulations).

Staff check that your OET account details match the ID and may check it again during the test. For OET on Computer and OET@Home you upload an image of the ID when booking (OET regulations). Rules and fees change. Check the test owner's own page for your country before you book or pay. This guide is general information, not official advice from the test owner.
