OET on paper or on computer: what is the difference?

OET on Paper and OET on Computer have the same structure, content, length and marking, and both cost AUD 587. On computer you type your answers, book up to 7 days before and can get results in as little as 48 hours, but Speaking is usually done at home online. On paper, everything is done at the centre on one day.

Which to choose

OET says neither is easier; candidates who prefer typing may find the computer more comfortable (OET). OET lists AHPRA, ECFMG, GMC, NMC, HPC, NMBI, the NZ Midwifery Council and FMRAC among regulators accepting OET on Computer.

One difference matters if you may need a resit. OET's test regulations say booking single sub-tests, rather than all four, applies only to OET on Paper, and only where your regulator accepts a single sub-test resit. See Can you resit one OET sub-test?.

Speaking timing on computer

The Computer page says Speaking is up to 5 days before or after your Listening, Reading and Writing date; the regulations describe the window as the same test administration, usually 8 days before or after. Results are published only once all four sub-tests are done (OET, regulations). Rules and fees change. Check the test owner's own page for your country before you book or pay.
