Up to three times: a first test and two retakes. Password lets you book and take the second test immediately after the first, but you must wait 28 days after the second before taking a third. Missed tests, illness and technical problems

If you are ill, you can reschedule free up to 24 hours before the test in your account. If you log in too late or not at all, there is no refund; you must log in 10 minutes before the start, and a new test costs extra (Password FAQ).

You are responsible for your equipment and connection. If technical problems on your side stop you completing the test, there is no refund (Password FAQ). Run the checks on the how to take the test page before test day.

Results, validity and appeals

Results are emailed within five working days with a printable PDF certificate (Password FAQ). If an institution gave you a voucher code, the certificate goes straight to it (Password).

Password does not set an expiry date: institutions choose how long they accept results, and two years is the usual period. If your test is disqualified, you can appeal within 14 days of the disqualification email, for a fee refunded if the appeal succeeds (Password FAQ). Rules and fees change.
