POSTECH graduate English minimums
From POSTECH's graduate admissions guide for international students (Fall 2024 and Spring 2025, the latest general guide we could read) and the GIFT graduate guide for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026, which lists the same scores:
| Test | Minimum |
|---|---|
| IELTS | 6.0 |
| TOEFL iBT | 79 (PBT 550) |
| TOEIC | 750 |
| TEPS | 600 (New TEPS 327) |
| Proof of instruction language | Sealed letter showing all courses were in English |
Test rules
Scores must be valid at the time of applying, and official TOEFL and IELTS reports can be sent to POSTECH using institution code 0329. TOEFL iBT Home Edition and MyBest scores are accepted. Institutional tests count only if organised by POSTECH. Duolingo and PTE are not listed.
Graduates of a university in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the US are exempt from the English test. Applicants from India, Pakistan or Nigeria with an English-medium degree can use the instruction-language letter instead of a score.

Check the current guide
The GIFT guide lists an application fee of 80 USD (80,000 KRW). POSTECH publishes a new guide for each admissions round, so confirm the minimums in the guide for your intake.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your POSTECH programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
