Undergraduate rules and exemptions

All undergraduate applicants must submit at least one test. Tests must be taken on or after 12 November 2024 for the Early track or 4 February 2025 for the Regular track, and remain valid (within two years) at the application deadline. ITP, Duolingo and at-home or online versions are not accepted.

You are exempt if you are a national of a listed English-speaking country (including Australia, Canada, Ireland, Malta, New Zealand, the UK and the US) or if you completed high school with English as the medium of instruction and submit a certificate or letter from the school saying so. KAIST does not name Indian boards; an English-medium school letter is the route.

Graduate rules and exemptions

Graduate scores must be valid at the online application deadline, and TOEFL ITP is not accepted. The GDI-ITTP track and KINS-KAIST do not require a test.

Citizens of, or degree holders who physically studied in, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Malta, New Zealand, the UK, the USA and listed Caribbean states are exempt. Citizens of a second list, which includes India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, the Philippines, Nigeria and Kenya, are exempt if they also completed a bachelor's or higher taught in English at an institution physically located in those countries, with an English-medium certificate from the university.

KAIST's English pages we read do not set a separate English score for the student visa or permit. Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your KAIST programme page and in your admission decision, so check it there before you book a test.
