How Queen's handles TOEFL scores

Queen's TOEFL institution code is 0949. The only accepted way to submit results is directly from the testing body, and your test details must match your application (name, date of birth and gender). Undergraduate test results are valid for a maximum of two years before you begin studies. The pages do not state a MyBest scores policy.

This page gives TOEFL iBT minimums on the 0 to 120 scale only. TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score; see how the new TOEFL score scale works. That applies to the graduate calendar; the undergraduate page already gives the 1 to 6 figure.

For comparison, the undergraduate page sets IELTS Academic at 6.5 with no band below 6.0, and the graduate calendar sets IELTS at 7.

If your TOEFL score is below Queen's level

Undergraduates who are academically competitive may be considered for a QBridge language pathway, and Queen's says a score below the requirement will not harm the application. QBridge Accelerated starts in early July for applicants with TOEFL iBT 80 or more; QBridge EAP takes lower scores, from TOEFL iBT 58, and may run across Fall and Winter. At graduate level, an A- or more in ESLA 150 at Queen's School of English may replace a test score.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Queen's programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
