What TOEFL score do you need for Texas Tech University?

Both offices accept the TOEFL iBT or the TOEFL Essentials test, require scores sent directly by ETS and say TOEFL scores are valid for only two years. The undergraduate page gives the institutional code B100; the Graduate School page gives 6827.

The Graduate School gives its TOEFL iBT figure only on the 0 to 120 scale; new reports also carry a 1 to 6 score, explained in our TOEFL 2026 score scale guide.

For comparison, both the undergraduate page and the Graduate School page set IELTS Academic at 6.5 overall.

Neither page describes conditional admission for a low TOEFL score. Undergraduates can also meet the requirement with SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing of 500, a qualifying ACT English score, or transferable college English courses that are not remedial or ESL classes.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Texas Tech programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
