What TOEFL score do you need for UC San Diego?

Use institution code 4836 when ordering TOEFL score reports, which reach the university four to six weeks after the test. MyBest scores are not accepted at this time.

International graduate students whose first language is not English must be certified for oral English before serving as a teaching assistant for the first time; the scores needed are on a separate UC San Diego page.

For comparison, the same page sets the university-wide IELTS Academic minimum at band 7.

Applicants with marginal TOEFL scores may have to pass an English proficiency test on arrival or take an English course until they reach the required level. The page does not describe admission below the minimum.
