What does not count
Certificates older than two years are not valid, and neither are certificates issued by universities in non-native countries, so an in-house English certificate from your home university will not work. PTE and Duolingo are not on the list.
Native speakers and holders of a degree taught in an English-speaking country are exempt. A degree taught in English in India, Pakistan or Nigeria is not an exemption under this wording.

Fees and dates
For 2026-27 the page lists fees of €1,162.20 (60 credits at €19.37) for EU and equivalent students and €6,600 for non-EU students, plus a €30.21 application fee. The 2026-27 rounds have closed; the 2027-28 cycle opens in January 2027.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your University of Barcelona programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where the University of Barcelona publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
