How SAT and ACT fit in

Students from non-English-speaking countries with an Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of 600 or an ACT English score of 25 meet the minimum English requirement. Those below that level must send a TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo result as well.

The two pages differ on whether the SAT or ACT is compulsory. The international page lists official ACT, SAT and/or CLT reports as required, while the international FAQ says students have the option to send them. Ask an admission counsellor before you decide to sit only an English test.

No conditional admission, and how to check

Because there is no conditional admission, you need the score before you apply. International transcripts must go through an approved evaluation service within 90 days of submitting your application, or the application is withdrawn. The application fee is $50, and the university warns that it offers no full scholarships to any student.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on the University of Dallas admissions page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.

Minimum vs competitive score

Where the University of Dallas publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.

Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
