How DU handles TOEFL scores

The undergraduate page says all score and subscore requirements must be met in a single test: DU does not superscore or accept test superscores such as TOEFL MyBest. Scores are valid for two years from the test date at both levels, and graduate scores count as official only when received directly from the testing agency. DU's TOEFL institution code is 4842.

Graduate applicants who want a teaching assistantship must show spoken English with a TOEFL iBT Speaking score of 26 (before 21 January 2026) or 5 (on or after). GTA awards may be revoked or restricted to non-teaching duties if a GTA does not show enough fluency in the classroom.

For comparison, DU asks for IELTS 6.5 at both levels; undergraduates also need no band below 5.5.

If your TOEFL score is below DU's level

Undergraduates can be exempted from testing if they completed their final three years at an English-medium secondary school, have SAT EBRW 600 or ACT English 25, or are transferring with 30 credits or English Composition I and II from an English-medium university. DU also offers an optional interview that helps staff judge English proficiency. Exemptions are not guaranteed.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your DU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
