Degree in English and GMAT/GRE

A bachelor's or higher degree completed in English counts if it is from the EU/EEA or a listed country. The list includes India, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, the Philippines and Singapore; Pakistan and Bangladesh are not on it. Some programmes also accept GMAT or GRE as proof.

The master's programmes in Nanoscience, Responsible Management and Business of Sport use JYU's Academic Readiness Screening (ACRES) instead, so the scores above do not apply to them. Duolingo is not listed.

Deadlines for 2027 admission

The application period ends on 21 January 2027, and your test report must be uploaded by 28 January 2027 at 3 pm (UTC+2). The result must be valid at least until the end of the application period. JYU says it does not grant waivers, and a score below the minimum means the application is rejected.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your JYU programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.

Minimum vs competitive score

Where the University of Jyväskylä publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.

Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
