Other routes for undergraduates
USI considers Duolingo, EIKEN and SAT or ACT case by case, and accepts an O Level certificate with B or higher in English. Transfer applicants from a US college can meet the requirement with at least 24 transferable credit hours and a C or higher in ENG 101 and ENG 102.

Conditional admission through Intensive English
Undergraduates with strong academic records whose English needs work can be admitted conditionally without TOEFL or IELTS, but they must complete the Intensive English Program before enrolling in a major. Graduate applicants can apply for the IEP only or apply to a programme while taking English classes. USI notes that some graduate programmes require higher scores.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admission cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your USI programme page and in your admission letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where the University of Southern Indiana (USI) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
