How UniSC handles TOEFL scores

Test results are valid for two years from the test date and must still be valid at your program start date. Where you submit more than one test, UniSC may assess the most recent. Online or at-home versions of the listed tests are not accepted, and for Table 2 programs only the criteria in Table 2 count.

UniSC gives its TOEFL figures on the 0 to 120 scale. Since January 2026 TOEFL iBT score reports also carry a 1 to 6 band score; see the new TOEFL score scale.

For comparison, the same page sets IELTS Academic at 6.0 (5.5 in each subtest) for undergraduate study and 6.5 (6.0 in each) for postgraduate and research degrees.

Your offer and your visa are separate. Home Affairs says that for a TOEFL iBT result to be valid for Australian visa purposes you must select 'Taking TOEFL for Australia' when you register, and it lists TOEFL iBT Home Edition among the online tests it does not accept (Home Affairs English page).

If your TOEFL score is below UniSC's level

UniSC accepts successful completion of its approved English for Academic Purposes courses: EAP 2 or EAP 3 for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework entry. Students moving from the Tertiary Preparation Pathway or the Postgraduate Qualifying Pathway still need the English level in Table 1 or 2 for their degree.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UniSC programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
