Utrecht TOEFL minimums by EMI level
Utrecht's Bachelor's and Master's English requirement pages both use the same three levels; the per-level figures below are from the Master's EMI-ready, EMI-experienced and EMI-advanced pages, and the Bachelor's level pages list the same TOEFL scores. Section minimums are in the order Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing.

Utrecht TOEFL test rules
TOEFL iBT, including the Home Edition, is accepted and cannot be more than two years old. TOEFL MyBest scores are not accepted, and any English test not listed in the overview is not accepted. The pages do not give an ETS institution code.
For comparison, the EMI-ready page sets IELTS Academic at 6.0 overall, the EMI-experienced page at 6.5 and the EMI-advanced page at 7.0, each with its own section minimums; IELTS Online and One Skill Retake are not accepted.

If your TOEFL score is below Utrecht's level
The level pages list exemptions instead of a pathway, for example an IB diploma with English for EMI-ready and EMI-experienced Bachelor's programmes, or a fully English-taught degree from the EU or a listed country for Master's programmes. Exemption lists differ by level, so check the one for your programme.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Utrecht programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.

It depends on the programme's EMI level: 83, 93 or 100 for tests before 21 January 2026, or 4.5, 4.5 or 5 for later tests, with section minimums.
