University English requirements

What Duolingo score do you need for UWA?

The University of Western Australia accepts the Duolingo English Test at 125 overall, with at least 115 in speaking, 125 in writing, 115 in reading and 110 in listening. That meets UWA's minimum standard of English for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework. UWA lists no Duolingo score for its higher standard, so courses with higher English requirements need a different test.

UWA test rules

UWA says the listed tests are valid for two years from the test date. Some courses have higher standard or accreditation English requirements, which are set out in their course rules. The page gives no Duolingo-specific instructions for sending scores.

For comparison, the same page puts the IELTS Academic minimum standard at 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, and the higher standard at 7.0 with no band below 6.5.

If your Duolingo score falls short

International applicants who do not meet the English requirement for direct entry can consider the Academic English and Study Skills Bridging course at the UWA Centre for English Language Teaching (UWA CELT).

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UWA programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
