Valencia English proficiency options
From Valencia's application requirements page. You need to meet one of the following.
| Programme or placement | IELTS Academic | Other tests |
|---|---|---|
| Degree-seeking admission | 5.5 | Duolingo 80, TOEFL 45 (school code 5869), LOEP 80 at Valencia |
| SAT or ACT | SAT Writing and Language 25 with Reading 24, or SAT Reading and Writing 490; ACT English 17 with Reading 19 | |
| Intensive English Program | At least 4 sessions with a B or better in level 6 or higher |
Waivers and degrees
You are exempt if your country of citizenship is on Valencia's English proficiency waiver list. English Composition or an equivalent with a C or higher, or an associate or bachelor's degree from an institution that taught in English, also counts, with official transcripts.
Students who finished the required Intensive English Program courses on or after May 2019 can use the IEP to EAP Bridge Agreement, which since autumn 2019 lets them start English for Academic Purposes coursework.

Fee, funds and excluded programmes
The application fee is $35. Proof of funds must be less than one year from the start of classes. Some programmes are not open to F-1 students because of online delivery or other limits, including Accelerated Nursing, Dental Hygiene, and Cybersecurity and Network Engineering Technology.
Requirements and placement levels change between terms. The score that binds you is the one on Valencia College's international admissions page and in your admission letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Valencia College publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
