Medium of instruction rules

Bachelor's applicants need a certificate; WUT does not accept a high school's medium of instruction letter. The exceptions are the IB Diploma with English as language A, and the European Baccalaureate with English as L1 or L2.

Master's applicants whose bachelor's or master's was taught exclusively in English can use a medium of instruction letter or the diploma supplement instead. Partial study in English, such as an Erasmus year, is not enough. WUT accepts no certificates outside its list, including Duolingo.

February 2027 intake for master's

For the February intake, WUT's M.Sc. admission page opens registration in the IRK system on 2 November 2026, with new applications closing on 7 December 2026 and admission documents, including English proof, due by 20 January 2027. Classes start on 22 February 2027 and each programme you select costs a PLN 85 application fee. Diplomas from outside the EU, OECD and EFTA (other than China and Ukraine) need a NAWA recognition statement.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your WUT programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.

Minimum vs competitive score

Where Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.

Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
