WKU English scores
Undergraduate figures are from WKU's admissions FAQ; graduate figures from the 2025 section of the graduate admissions guidelines and the MS Computer Science page.
| Level | IELTS | Other tests |
|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate | 6.0 | TOEFL iBT 79 (new iBT 4.0) or PBT 550; Duolingo 105 |
| Graduate (most programmes) | 6.5 | TOEFL iBT 79 or PBT 550; Duolingo 105 |
| Undergraduate First-Class scholarship | 7.0 | Duolingo 130 |
| Undergraduate Second-Class scholarship | 6.5 | Duolingo 120 |
Waivers
Undergraduates can ask for a waiver based on English-medium secondary education, supported by official documents and approved by the Admissions Office. For graduate study, a test is required if your bachelor's is from outside the US in a country where English is not the principal language; a bachelor's or master's from an English-medium institution, or a degree from an accredited US institution, waives it.
Applicants from countries where English is an official language cannot use test scores to qualify for an undergraduate scholarship.

Timing and validity
WKU says undergraduates should apply only once their English score report is ready, as there is no conditional or send-later route. Graduate test scores must be from the past two years and sent directly by the testing service. Some graduate programmes may list a different IELTS figure on their own page.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your WKU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Wenzhou-Kean University publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
