Model answer

Band 8 model answer

Band 8270 words, about two minutes at a natural pace. Details are invented; use your own.

I'd like to talk about a lovely riverside path that runs along the River Cam on the outskirts of Cambridge. It's tucked away just behind an old residential neighbourhood, so unless you live nearby, you wouldn't necessarily stumble across it. I first discovered it a couple of years ago during a weekend break when I was looking for somewhere quiet to go for a jog.

The scenery along the trail is really charming. On one side, there is the calm, gently flowing water, often lined with weeping willows and reed beds, while the other side opens up to grassy meadows and pockets of dense woodland. The path itself is paved with smooth gravel, making it ideal for both pedestrians and cyclists. You rarely get any motor traffic noise there, just the sound of birds chirping and the breeze rustling through the trees.

People use the path for all sorts of leisure activities. In the mornings, you'll see local commuters pedalling to work on their bicycles to avoid the congested main roads, alongside dog walkers and joggers taking in the fresh air. At weekends, it becomes a hub for families pushing prams or amateur photographers trying to capture kingfishers and swans.

What makes this place so appealing to me is the sheer sense of tranquility it offers. In a busy city, it's remarkably hard to find green spaces where you can genuinely switch off and unwind. Whenever I feel a bit overwhelmed or stressed out, taking a slow walk down that trail helps clear my head. It feels like a breath of fresh air, far away from the hustle and bustle.
