Describe someone you know who has started a business

I’d like to talk about my close friend, Sarah, who recently took the plunge and launched her own boutique floral design studio in the heart of our city. She specialises in bespoke arrangements for weddings and corporate events, moving away from standard bouquets to create architectural, almost sculptural pieces using seasonal, locally sourced blooms. Before this, Sarah spent years working in a high-pressure marketing firm, but she always felt a sense of disconnect from her creative passions. The turning point came during the lockdown when she started experimenting with floral art in her kitchen; she realised that working with her hands brought her a level of fulfilment that spreadsheets never could. She decided to launch her business because she wanted autonomy over her creative output and the ability to build something that reflected her personal aesthetic values. Watching her transition from a corporate employee to a thriving small business owner has been truly inspiring. As for whether I would like to do the same, I am honestly quite conflicted. On one hand, the idea of being my own boss and building a venture from the ground up is incredibly appealing, especially the freedom to set my own schedule and pursue my own vision. However, I am acutely aware of the financial instability and the relentless administrative burden that comes with entrepreneurship. While I admire her grit and artistic flair, I think my own personality is better suited to a role where I can focus on my core tasks without the constant pressure of managing profit margins and client acquisition. I prefer a more structured environment, though I definitely envy her creative autonomy.
