Describe the home of someone you know well

I would love to describe my best friend Sarah’s home, which is a charming detached cottage tucked away in a quiet, leafy suburb on the outskirts of Bristol. It is the sort of place that feels like a sanctuary the moment you step through the gate. From the outside, it is a traditional stone-built property draped in climbing ivy, with a thatched roof that gives it a quintessential English countryside aesthetic. There is a small, overgrown garden at the front filled with lavender and wild roses, which makes the entrance feel incredibly inviting, especially during the spring months.

Stepping inside, the interior is a complete contrast to the modern, minimalist apartments I am used to. The living room is dominated by a massive, rustic stone fireplace, and the walls are lined with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves that Sarah has curated over the years. The floorboards are original oak, creaking softly underfoot, and the rooms are decorated in warm, earthy tones with eclectic soft furnishings that add a touch of bohemian flair. The kitchen is the heart of the house, bathed in natural light and smelling faintly of dried herbs and freshly ground coffee.

What I particularly adore about this home is its soul. It manages to feel both spacious and incredibly cosy, a rare balance to strike. I find the lack of clutter and the abundance of natural materials deeply soothing compared to the sterile environments of city flats. However, if I had to mention a drawback, it would be that the old stone walls make it quite drafty during the winter months, meaning you spend half your time huddled near the log burner.
